Re: Hello Vancouver, BC!

hexapoda:

Myself and my mister are coming to you at the end of March.  Suggestions?  I like nature, science, animals, art, books, vegan food, oh and inexpensive places to sleep.  Also, we don’t have a car, how is the public transportation?

Thanks!

Jessica

Vancouver ideas:
Look into staying at the YWCA? The rooms are clean and its pretty cheap as far as I remember… In a slightly outside of the downtown area but close enough walk to the skytrain/busses. There are hostels on Granville street (the “entertainment” district)  but granville isnt that exciting if you have been to big cities and arent into clubs with 20 dollar cover.

Public transportation is good and easy! There are a couple skytrains that run to major areas of the city, and a bus (99 B-line) that runs along (East-West) one of the major big streets (Broadway) outside of the downtown core, and hits all the major streets running North-South. I would suggest looking around downtown/art gallery, walking the seawall along stanley park, going to the aquarium if you dont have ocean/sea creatures near your house (though you may not be into marine mammals in captivity) for generally touristy things… but also to take the 99 to Main street and walk south (up, anywhere between 7th - 25thish) there are lots of crafty stores and antique shops, also to commercial drive (also where you can get the skytrain) and walking north (towards smaller numbered streets). Ummm I’ve heard the Beatty Biodiversity museum and Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia are good, easy to get to the university, but maybe tricky to find the actual buildings… where are you coming from, for comparison?

As far as vegan food..this lady has a blog about some restaurants… http://www.veganmischief.com/?s=+restaurants Budgie’s burritos and the foundation on Main are good if you dont mind servers with excessive body hair.

I really like helping people that are visiting in finding cool places to go to that they might not otherwise notice…. I hope this is somewhat coherent…but anyway message me if you need more suggestions! Our transit system has a good website as far as planning trips too so..good luck!
